This is a special mix I did for mona’s birthday. We had it pressed up on a CD and gave it out as a gift at February’s birthday party. The mix includes most of the tracks that have worked well for people at the night over the past year. It took me quite a long time to bring the number of tracks down to a reasonable quantity, and a few have been forgotten. In the end I gave in and decided to make the mix twice as long, issuing it in two parts to cover the different styles of music I mainly play during the night : deep house, disco, broken beats, electrofunk. This is part one, part two will follow soon. Tracklist and a few words on each track can be found here

I hope you enjoy the music we love.

One of the last Otra Otra gigs in 2006

This mix was done a few years back at the end of 2006. It was the last mix I did using vinyl records. After then I moved on to a digital mixing solution after playing CDs for a few months. I never got used to playing CDs as I could never plan my sets out as I wanted, but playing with my laptop and a midi interface has opened up a whole new field of possibilities : looping, playlists, effects, sampling, greater sound definition …

I have to admit I still miss playing with vinyl which has a lot to do with the beauty of the record itself and I still buy quite a lot of vinyl too. But I’m more than happy with the way I play out today with my new mixing system.

This mix is on a deep tip, very moody. Tracklist includes : Carl Craig, Spirit Catcher, TC Curtis, Metro Area …

On saturday 21st February 2009 it was Mona’s first birthday at La Java in Paris. 750 people turned up and listened to 11 djs play 6 hours of  music. The vibe was amazing and I really enjoyed it.

The floor was packed until the lights went on at 6 am. This pic was taken around 3am (Mandel Turner with headphones). For more photos check out Brice Smo’s album on facebook.

Here is the complete 6 hour mix recorded as it happened. The line up was as follows, set times are approximate.  Big thanks to the ten djs who came down !

NICKV is a product of Mancunia, packaged in the suburbs of Paris and currently one of the hottest djs on the Paris scene.

His reputation has grown with the success of the clubs he helped to establish in 2003 when Nick’s across the genre flavoured dj sets led him to hold down major residencies : GUYS & DOLLS, OTRA OTRA, CLUB DISCO and BALLROOM – some of Paris’s best underground nights where he played monthly to the more discerning ears of open minded and mixed people – gay, straight or both – alongside the likes of Laurent Garnier, Dimitri from Paris, Needs, The Unabombers, At Jazz, Ivan Smagghe, i:cube, Dj Deep, Âme, Greg Wilson, Gilb’r, Erik Rug, Grand Wizard Theodore, Maurice Fulton, Metro Area, Chris Goss (Hospital), ?uestLove …

Nick’s Mancunian origins combined to a Paris based b-boy and funk background have provided him with a rare blend of music tastes, on which he draws to build his unique sets. His DJ sets rip up any dancefloor and combine music from all genres and periods of music : digging deep into the old school from hiphop to disco and electro funk, through to the sounds of the future drum & bass, deep house, broken beats, techno soul and far beyond. His dynamic yet smooth mixing skills honed over the years have established Nick as one of the hottest djs in the French capital.

Today you can catch him every second Saturday of the month at MONA where he spins underground house and disco alongside the likes of DJ Deep, Rainer Truby, Red Greg, The My Love is Underground crew, Andre Lodemann, DJ Nature, Pal Joey, Alex From Tokyo … He also co-runs EDIT, a midweek residency at LE REX CLUB in Paris, uniting the sounds of today’s beats&soul scene : dubstep, nu disco, garage, deep house. Nick is city chief of 22TRACKS Paris and in charge of the deephouse & beats playlists with the Edit crew. He is also member and administrator of TECHNOPOL a non profit organisation that supports the French Electronic music scene and organises Paris’ Technoparade. Nick is a partime acoustics consultant in building and engineering.

At Jazz, Pete Herbert, Maurice Fulton, The Unabombers, Dimitri from Paris, Needs …
